Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Presenting with Reversible Frontotemporal Dementia

North Cyprus IVF Center's clinical coordinator, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ozyigit has recently published his latest article in the Frontiers of Neurology.

In this article, Ozyigit, Michaelides and Natsipoulos collaborate on a case study of a 70 year-old patients who presents with a wide range of neurological symptoms which go undiagnosed for almost 2 years due to their uncommon nature.

Ozyigit and his co-authors demonstrate in this article that spontaneous intracranial hypotension (which often results from a cerebrospinal fluid leak) can present with a wide range of neurological manifestations including chorea, dysarthria, narcolepsy and frontotemporal dementia. In this case study, the 70 year-old woman, who suffers a 22-month unsolved mystery, finally finds relief after a course of corticosteroids. Patient's symptoms fully reverse after four months of corticosteroid therapy.

This article demonstrates that, in rare cases, what might seem as dementia can, in fact, be caused by SIH and can be reversed.
